… the NEW, IMPROVED Joy and Sunshine blog!

*Rah, rah! shaking pom-poms and doing a backflip, or more realistically, a slightly rusty regular old cartwheel*

Hi, Everyone!

I promise I haven’t been completely slacking, despite the lack of posts recently. For the past few weeks, I’ve been hard at work on a new blog design and update, and I’m super duper excited to share that the new site (www.JoyandSunshine.com) should be up and running – and I’ll be back to posting every weekday – very soon! YAY!

The one little glitch is that current email and WordPress blog followers will need to resubscribe to the new site. Also, I’m not sure if/how Bloglovin’ will be impacted by the update, but it’s possible that those who currently follow Joy and Sunshine via Bloglovin’ might need to resubscribe as well. (Once the new site goes live, I plan to offer a giveaway, just to make the subscription/resubscription deal a little sweeter :-))

Thank you again, and I really, truly do appreciate all your support, reads (readership?), post comments, shares, emails, Twitter comments, Pinterest pins and repins… all of it!

Let me know what you think, and if you have any ideas or things you’d like to see in future posts, please don’t hesitate to share! Again, YAY!

Shirt: Club Monaco (worn with another print HERE)/ Top: J Crew/ Skinnies: Madewell/ Bracelets and Clutch: J Crew (also in THIS POST)/ Shoes: Madewell/ Sunnies: Ray-Ban

A friend and I went to lunch at Star Provisions (more detail about this great, great spot in a future post) in West Midtown recently, and she was kind enough to snap a few outfit pics for me. Thanks, Ms. T!

Side note: All my friends are becoming photographers because I’ll whip out my camera in a second, and say, “Do you mind taking some pictures for me?” After giving my Nikon the side eye – often multiple side eyes – they always agree. They’re the sweetest 🙂

Personal Shopper: What to Wear to a Tea Party (Part II)

Tags

Remember THIS POST where we 1.) learned that my lucky friend is going to tea at the St. Regis (squealing was and still is involved), and 2.) saw some elegant but still modern, versatile, and wearable dress options? Well, here’s Part Deux: accessories! As I’d mentioned before, this tea party business is serious… and while every serious venture has a dress code of sorts, we can definitely tweak it a bit 🙂

Pearls are the traditional go-to for ladies-who-tea, and this multi-strand version from J Crew offers a more interesting take on the basic. If pearls are not really your thing – i.e. the tea party will be a one-and-done wear – you might consider borrowing a pearl necklace from a relative/friend or going for a much less expensive option from a store like Claire’s or Forever 21.

One Piece, Two Ways: Pink Striped Shirt

Striped Button Down Shirt: J Crew

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: There’s very little a proper button down can’t fix. They literally go with everything; can be worn open, closed, tucked, untucked, tied high on the torso, tied low at the waistband, collar up, collar down; sleeves buttoned, pushed, or cuffed; worn casually or formally; sexed up – top buttons undone + fitted pencil skirt + bananas heels… classic, understated bombshell – or edged out with a leather jacket (I want this one!) and boots. I could go on with this little ode to the oxford, but you get the picture 🙂

Sweater: Target (see more Fab Finds from Tar-jay HERE)/ Top: Forever 21 (styled differently in THIS POST and THIS POST)/ Jeans: Vintage Calvin Klein (also worn THIS POST)/ Belt: J Crew/ Skimmers: Madewell (see more print mixes featuring these flats HERE and HERE)/ Sunnies: Ray-Ban

I have gotten so much use out of this super inexpensive peter pan collar crop top that I really need to go back and give Forever 21 some more money.* It’s the perfect thin layering piece, and it makes it simple to add some sweetness (thanks to the rounded good-little-girl collar) to any random look.

*I’m not actually going to give F21 more money; that would be insane.

Rosemary Roasted Potatoes

My favorite recipes have a few things in common: simple ingredients, few steps, and great flavors. This incredibly easy recipe adapted from Recipes by Susan Spungen definitely fits the bill. Plus, it’s a good way to use up fresh rosemary left over from this LEMON HERB CHICKEN recipe. I love that it works as both a nice side dish to a more elegant meal and as a French fry alternative when paired with sandwiches. You know, kind of that dress it up/dress it down thing 🙂

This bright, but simple color palette caught my eye so I decided to put together something similar and fall-ready using pieces in my closet.

Little Luxuries: Heart Pendant Necklace

Madewell Necklace (see it worn in THIS POST)

My sweetheart hubby surprised me with this sweet heart pendant necklace after seeing it on my Pinterest board. (I knew I should have pinned that Louis Vuitton carry-on luggage *slaps forehead in yet another duh/d’oh moment*). Also, I accept the fact that I’m definitely challenged when it comes to choosing accessories – jewelry included – but I fell in love with this delicate little necklace the moment I saw it 🙂
